World Men's Handball Championship — Egypt 2021
108 matches · 32 teams · 6 venues across Cairo, Alexandria, Giza
The brief.
The world handball championship's first 32-team expanded format demanded world-handball-federation-rulebook compliance across 6 venues, with simultaneous matches in different time zones for European and Asian broadcasters. Egypt's broadcast infrastructure varied wildly venue-to-venue, from new builds in the New Administrative Capital to legacy arenas in Cairo.
SolutionWhat we deployed.
Skyline delivered the federation-standard handball console (2-minute penalty clocks per player, 7m shot logging, suspension tracking, team timeout management), broadcast feeds via NDI and SRT to handle the older venues' limited HD-SDI capacity, and a central NOC in Cairo. Per-venue field engineers handled local broadcast integration. All match data fed live to the federation's official mobile app.
ResultsThe outcome.
Zero technical failures across 108 matches. Sub-100ms broadcast latency sustained. World handball federation cited the deployment as the new benchmark for major championships. Egyptian Handball Federation contracted Skyline for ongoing domestic-league scoring.
"Across 108 matches, six venues, and 22 days, the Skyline scoring system was the one thing we did not have to worry about."
